Sarah Cottage - Nuwara Eliya

The lounge was a lovely feature, with its transparent roof under the open sky and tea gardens all around. Our large, wood-panelled Superior Double room had lovely windows, a huge balcony with a bean bag, dining table and bin bag, plus a movable clothes drying rack in the almirah. We booked through Agoda and had a view of the tea gardens. The room was spotless and had all the basics we needed, including hot running water, a heater, hair dryer and electric kettle. The location inside Pedro tea estate was quiet and serene, with an easy drive to the city center as there isn’t much traffic in Nuwara Eliya. Our takeaway breakfast for the Horton Plains hike was plentiful and nutritious, with juice, yogurt, boiled egg, egg sandwich and bacon, packed in paper bags, which are allowed at Horton Plains. We also enjoyed the English breakfast with juice, fruit, toast, butter and eggs. Our host Arafath cooked curry rice for dinner. The daal tasted like home; the potato curry was a bit too spicy for us, but we still really enjoyed the meal. The only thing to fix is our room lock, which was a little loose.

We loved eating on our balcony, where they arranged a lovely breakfast at our request, with the tea estate view right there. Every meal was fresh, flavorful and delicious. The hospitality made the stay especially memorable: owner Arfath and the other caretakers were friendly, helpful and quick to take care of things, and we felt welcome throughout. We spent two days at Sarah Cottage over Christmas and found it peaceful, clean and exceptionally comfortable. Our Peppermint Room was beautifully designed, with a balcony and breathtaking views; the fresh air made time out there special. It’s a great choice for a peaceful getaway with excellent service, and I highly recommend it.

The BBQ night they arranged was a highlight, and the cook and manager were super friendly. We stayed two nights at Sarah Cottage in Nuwara Eliya and loved the food and service. The wooden interiors looked beautiful, and the tea estate views were stunning. Highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway.

I loved the location and vibe here. Arafath coordinated with me about the booking, and I especially want to thank Divahar for helping us organize our meals. He was flexible enough to arrange breakfast around 4.00am and made sure everything was in order so we had a good experience. It’s an affordable place and a great spot to relax in Nuwara Eliya.
