Gem Field Rest

The host was welcoming, friendly, and quick to reply on WhatsApp. He helped us arrange a gemstone mine tour after the operator we had picked was fully booked. We still got to go, visiting three mines, a museum, and two gemstone markets, with more interesting stops than most standard itineraries. We could also stay after checkout and take a hot shower following the tour of the mining shafts. The hotel itself was very clean, with spacious rooms, lots of comfortable furniture, and a brand-new renovation. There’s private parking, a large green garden, and a lovely view from the balcony. Rooms have a refrigerator, electric kettle, bottled water cooler, and powerful air conditioner. The Wi-Fi was reliable, and the bathroom had hot water and good pressure. One small suggestion: a shelf under the bathroom mirror and better mirror lighting would be handy, especially for women.

A spacious, peaceful place to stay, and the town is easy to reach on foot. We also enjoyed sitting on the terrace and watching birds and other animals.

The owner helped us with advice for our trip to NP Sinharaja and the trek to Adam's peak, and his mom cooked a delicious traditional dinner with lots of variety. The family running the place were so nice and took great care of us, we really felt at home. Our room was large, very clean, and stylish, with a lovely balcony overlooking green gardens. A very pleasant place, highly recommended for anyone exploring Ratnapura and the surrounding area.

Ratnapura is a good place to experience another side of Sri Lanka. The accommodation was great, the surroundings peaceful, and the owner very helpful.
