Green Grass Homestay

I won’t go back. The homestay didn’t look as nice as it did in the pictures. The bathroom wasn’t clean, and water collected on the floor. Getting there by car is difficult, and there were lots of stray dogs and mosquitoes. Mr. Dinu, the caretaker, was extremely rude and his behavior toward a guest was unacceptable. I ordered dinner through him and was charged one and a half times the actual price. When I objected, he spoke loudly and disrespectfully. His parents, though, were quite polite.

The family were easily the best part, so friendly, helpful, and lovely. The location is great too: you can walk to Lion rock, and it’s a minute from restaurants while still being quiet and set back from the road. There’s cycle and scooter hire and tours next door, and it’s good value. We had a non-AC room under the trees, which stayed cool enough with the fan. Breakfast was included and lovely. I gave it the highest rating because the whole experience was so good, even though it wasn’t perfect.

The auntie was so nice when I walked in looking for a room. I loved the green outdoor space, and it’s very close to the lions fort. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve had in Sri Lanka. I’d definitely go back.

I arrived late while cycling around Sri Lanka and was welcomed by a lovely, polite lady. For 2000, the room with an en-suite was a good price for the area. Both the room and bathroom were clean, and the shower was hot. It’s in town, opposite a great bar restaurant, and has a private patio with a table and chairs. I’d happily stay again. Having read some of the other reviews, I found them a bit harsh compared with what’s available and what I’ve experienced on my tour. Highly recommended.
