Nivadoo Resort Sigiriya

The service from the staff was superb. They were welcoming, friendly, and smiling, and when our room had plumbing problems they offered us another room for the night. At checkout they also took a small amount off the bill for the inconvenience. The rooms were a different story. Ours was quite dirty, especially the bathroom, and the old interior clearly needs renovation. The linen and towels were extremely worn. We found both big and small cockroaches in our room, and saw the same problem in another room we looked at. That second room had fruit left in the fridge by previous guests, and the refrigerator was leaking water and not working properly. The internet barely worked. Food in the dining area was average, and service took a very long time even with few people there. Food prices were reasonable, but cocktails were extremely expensive. Despite how the hotel looks in photos and online reviews, our stay left a very negative impression of Sri Lanka. It wasn’t worth even 50% of what we paid, and the 8.2 rating on Booking.com made me wonder how authentic the reviews are. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend it.

We spent a few enjoyable days here. Our well-equipped safari "pod" sat among the trees, with exotic birds calling nearby. The pool area was peaceful and relaxing, and the staff were attentive. We liked the breakfast too.

At night, especially on Poya day, there was a lovely moonlight feel to the place. Nivadoo Resort has a nature-friendly atmosphere and calm surroundings that made my stay memorable, and I enjoyed every moment. It’s a quiet, relaxing getaway, and I’d happily recommend it. The staff made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived and were friendly and helpful. My room was clean, comfortable, and nicely designed. The food was fresh and tasty, with a good mix of Sri Lankan and international flavors. The location also made it easy to explore, just a short drive from Sigiriya Rock, lakes, elephants, and paddy fields. I’ve stayed at many hotels in Sri Lanka, but this place felt different.

We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Nivadoo Resort, and the food was tasty, freshly made, and served in generous portions. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful, so we felt at home as soon as we arrived. The resort is a good choice for a peaceful stay near Sigiriya. It’s surrounded by nature and was a calm place to unwind after traveling and sightseeing. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. We found it good value, would recommend it, and would be happy to come back.
