Sigiri Thilanka Rest

We spent two nights at Sigiri Thilanka Rest and had no problems at all. Sanjeev and his wife were really sweet and accommodating hosts. If you want a cozy, comfortable homestay in Sigiriya, this is a great fit.

We arrived late at night to find no towels, bin, or bottled drinking water in the room. Even the next day, these basics weren’t provided until we asked repeatedly, and staff told us to collect them ourselves rather than bring them to the room. Breakfast was included in our booking, but the owner refused to serve it because we arrived after 8:00 AM. This cutoff hadn’t been clearly explained beforehand, and he spoke to us rudely and dismissively about it. He also kept complaining that I had booked through an online platform instead of paying him directly. Once he saw I had booked the following night online too, his attitude got even more hostile. The worst moment came when our cab arrived for a late-night checkout. The owner stopped the driver and questioned him about why he was late, where we were going, and other personal matters. Our plans are private, and it was inappropriate to interrogate the driver. He even warned the driver about us and suggested we might not pay, though all our payments had already been cleared. It was embarrassing and disrespectful. That suspicion and hostility made the whole stay feel uncomfortable and unsafe. This was one of the worst, most uncomfortable places I’ve stayed while traveling. I strongly recommend avoiding it and finding somewhere in Sigiriya where guests are treated with basic respect and professionalism.

The property was well maintained and had everything we needed. The host was attentive and happy to take care of any request straight away. Great service, highly recommended.

There are plenty of places to eat nearby. We had a peaceful stay, and a tuk-tuk can be picked up directly from the road.
