Chef Anura and his wife were warm hosts, and we’d absolutely recommend their place for the clean rooms and wonderful food. The house has two rooms, one downstairs and one upstairs; the upstairs one is more spacious and looks onto a leafy backyard. Both the rooms and linen were clean and tidy. Breakfast is included and can be served whenever suits you between 6:30am and 9am. We ate dinner there all three nights, enjoying delicious Sri Lankan meals with dessert and a different variety each day. Chef Anura also provided drinking water and an extra pot of tea or coffee during the day when we asked. He arranged transport and safari rides for us and helped us get a good deal. The name fits: it’s in a peaceful area, and Anura is an excellent chef.

The food was the best, and the host family were extremely nice. When we arrived late on our first evening, Anura immediately spent an hour in the kitchen preparing a delicious selection of Sri Lankan meals. He and his wife also taught us to make several dishes in a cooking class. The room was clean. Can only recommend!

Breakfast and the paid dinners cooked by Chef Anura and his wife were the highlight for us, easily the best food we had on our three-week trip to Sri Lanka. The stay at Anuras house was amazing, and the accommodation’s price more or less matches its interior and quality. Dinner timing could have been better: the agreed times never worked out, and we usually waited around 30-45 minutes.

Anura has been running his family homestay for 10 years, and as a retired chef he’s an excellent host who can cook the best of Sri Lankan dishes for dinner. We took one of his cooking classes, made various dishes, and wrote down the recipes. He also helped organise tours around Sigiriya and found us a reliable driver for our next stay. The room was well equipped and clean, with good air conditioning and WiFi. If we return, we’ll definitely visit again. Superb place for relaxing in a village setting.
