This is a small, family-run place with just two rooms, both spacious and opening onto a veranda. The AC was new, quiet, and worked well. You’re right by the main road and can walk to the town center and Lion’s Rock, though the setting still feels like jungle. There were monkeys everywhere. Google Maps pointed to good restaurants on the street, but the meal the family made was the one I’ll remember. The breakfast was great, and guests in the other room told me dinner was amazing. They were right. It’s freshly made, so give them a little notice. I went on safari with the son and had a great time. He was accommodating, and I saw around 90 elephants, including two bulls fighting on the drive back. He stopped and explained what was happening. They also got me a ride to my next stop, and I rented a bike for 1000. Great place.

The family at Thuruliya residence were so welcoming, and the owner helped me plan the rest of my trip around Sri Lanka with useful tips. The rooms are large, extremely clean, and have AC. It’s in a quiet spot, within walking distance of Lion Rock, with plenty of good restaurants and cafés nearby. They also arrange tours, and I went to Polonnaruwa with them. Breakfast was delicious and really filling. I had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it.

The charges felt fair, and they made tasty food to suit our request. They also dropped us near the entrance for foreigners, which made things much easier, especially for anyone with knee problems. The owner is a friendly, genuine former Principal. The air conditioner is old but works. Compared with other homestays, this place is pretty good.

Their son took us to Minneriya National Park, where we saw 80-100 elephants in the wild, and also showed us viewpoints and a great Herbal and spice garden. We’d had trouble with accommodation elsewhere and were going door to door looking for a room. This family welcomed us as soon as we arrived. The room was nice and big, with all the basics, and the area was lovely. Breakfast was served every morning. A beautiful place and a beautiful family, thanks for a great stay!

The hosts were really friendly and kept checking that we felt at home. Thuruliya Residence is peaceful, quiet, and well maintained, with spacious, comfortable rooms and the needed amenities. It’s also handy for visiting the main attractions while still feeling calm. A clean, relaxing place to stay, highly recommended for the area.
