Avoid booking online, or you may lose your money. When we arrived, we were told the place was closed and under renovation. It looked forgotten and abandoned, and we couldn't see any renovation work going on. It has a lot of potential, what a shame. They offered to move us to another hotel, managed by the same person, for three times this property's price. We've learned the hard way that this can happen in Sri Lanka. Now we visit a place first, then book online or make a deal with the owners on the spot. Places are often in much worse condition than their Google Maps or Booking reviews suggest, so keep that in mind.

It's a peaceful place with plenty of potential, and the food was excellent. Amal and the new management know about the current shortcomings and are putting a lot of effort into making it a wonderful resort.

The cottages are nice, the area is lovely, and the food is excellent. The people are the kindest, and it's a great base for a safari in Udawalawe national park.
