We recently held a group gathering at this hotel, and it was a very disappointing experience. The property looked poorly maintained and wasn't at all like the photos online. With only sheet roofing, the area became extremely hot and uncomfortable during the day. There seemed to be only two or three people trying to manage everything, and stray dogs kept coming into the grounds. We had to chase them away several times, which made guests uncomfortable. The lunch was far below expectations. Some food appeared to have small cleaning particles in it, which was concerning, and the fish devilled dish seemed to use old, not fresh fish. The pool also wasn't properly maintained. We could see particles in the water, and everyone in our group felt itchy after swimming. The room facilities caused problems as well. The bathroom flusher in our rooms didn't work, so guests from two rooms had to share one bathroom. We understand the hotel says it's one of the first establishments in the Udawalawa area, but our experience was extremely poor. I'd strongly advise people not to rely only on the attractive photos on Facebook or Google when booking. This was one of our worst experiences organizing a group gathering. Very disappointing.
The atmosphere was calm and close to nature, and the staff were really helpful and accommodating. We stayed two nights, booking two triple rooms and one double. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, with good value for the price. The food was tasty, with generous portions and good quality. We really appreciated that they arranged early check-in and late checkout, which made the stay much more convenient. A good place to stay in Udawalawe, especially for families or small groups looking for comfort and friendly service.
We stayed one night with friends, and things were disappointing from the start. When we arrived, the staff member seemed unsure about our booking, so we didn't feel welcomed. The rooms weren't properly cleaned: used soaps from previous guests were still in the bathrooms, and the toilet paper was nearly gone, so we had to ask for more. Even though we booked the same room type, the amenities differed, with TVs in some rooms but not others. There were other problems with the facilities. The hair dryers didn't work properly, one room's bidet shower hose was too short, and the triple rooms felt very cramped compared with the double rooms. We'd requested a bonfire and BBQ ahead of time, but they weren't ready on time. The shrimp was undercooked and had to be sent back, and the breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all below standard. Most concerning, three girls in our group felt uncomfortable because of inappropriate behavior and unnecessary comments from one staff member. We reported everything to the manager and hope they take appropriate action. We know this is one of the oldest hotels in Udawalawa, but cleanliness and basic arrangements need much better attention. Given the current condition and our experience, we wouldn't recommend it. We hope the service and standards improve.
My ground floor room looked out onto the gardens, and I enjoyed the calm, friendly atmosphere. The staff were very helpful. There's a value-for-money gift shop, and traditional food with plenty of options for more conservative travellers. It's close enough for a great safari. I also enjoyed the cricket motif!
The pool, set among lush trees, was a tranquil, private spot to unwind after a day out. The location felt like a paradise, and the welcoming staff made me feel at home as soon as I arrived. They were attentive throughout and arranged my safari at a fantastic value compared with other places I checked. The tour was perfectly organized, and I saw loads of elephants and other wildlife. Afterward, breakfast exceeded my expectations, with a delicious spread of local and international dishes. Udawalawe Safari Village brings together natural beauty, good value, and warm hospitality. It's an ideal choice for a memorable safari and a relaxing stay, and I can't recommend it enough.
