Green Villa

The garden is pretty and peaceful, though not really a place you'd want to spend much time, so this felt like a hotel for sleeping. Our second-floor room was fresh, with a nice bathroom and a fairly large balcony. We stayed two nights in December. Wi-fi worked okay, but wasn't great. Construction nearby woke us early, though otherwise it wasn't too noisy. The road to Unawatuna beach isn't long, but traffic was packed, and walking it took about 15 minutes unless you didn't mind getting hit by a tuk-tuk. We didn't try breakfast, so can't comment on the food.

Our room was nicely decorated and furnished, and the garden and shared area were kept in great shape. The place is on a cool side street lined with shops and cafes leading straight to Unawatuna beach. It worked perfectly for NYE: close to the beach, but far enough away that we couldn't hear the music when we called it a night. Staying here helped make Unawatuna my favourite place so far in Sri Lanka!

The common areas are lovely, a nice spot to sit and relax. The sheets were clean and the bathroom well maintained. Our room was fairly clean too, though we found a spider, which the cleaning staff killed and removed. One thing to know: the photos make the rooms look more impressive than they are, but the shared spaces do match them.

The staff were kind, but we wouldn't recommend staying here. It's a guesthouse sharing a house, and you get to the room through a shared garden. Getting to the beach quickly means passing through a beach restaurant, which was inconvenient, and the place is far from the beach. The owner's unwelcome attitude and service made it unclear whether this was meant to be a hotel or a homestay. It has hotel-like facilities, but feels more like a homestay or guesthouse.
