Happy Banana Hotel & Restaurant

This was the worst customer service I've ever had. I'd been there more than three times and left a generous tip, 20% on top of the 10% service charge, hoping they'd treat me better next time. It got worse. On Friday night I was invited to a party they were hosting. The place looked good, but there weren't enough seats, so I sat at the bar. I saw firsthand how things worked, and wouldn't order cocktails: a waiter put his hands into someone's drink to retrieve an ice cube. That's unsanitary. Ask them to open a beer in front of you, too. I noticed the bartender collecting leftover beers. The waiter ignored me five times, just nodding and leaving me hanging. They always ask where you're from at the gate, and I don't think it's for security. It feels like racial profiling. As a Black person, I didn't feel this place was good for me.

Last year this place had great energy and excellent service, and I had such a good time here with my girlfriend and friends. This visit was a huge disappointment. I'm in the same industry in Hong Kong and run my own bars and restaurants, and what happened today was a real mess. Nobody on the team was smiling. We waited 30 minutes for a mango juice, and got a mixed juice instead, then an hour for a wrap and salad. The bill was wrong and higher than it should have been. At least the food was fresh and good. The men's and women's toilets in the bar were extremely dirty, and when I told the waiter, he reacted as if I'd really hurt him. I still said goodbye and thanks, but the same server gave me a dirty look. Something needs to be done about this beautiful place, and quickly.

We waited an hour for two cocktails. They were badly arranged and very expensive. The very unfriendly server tried to charge us more than the prices on the list. We definitely won't be back. 👎🏻

This matched what other visitors have said: staff at the restaurant and bar explicitly profile brown guests. It's ironic. We waited ages just for a beer, which arrived with obvious indignation, and they asked our country of origin before letting us use the bathroom.
