Hiding Unawatuna

I hope they pay closer attention in future: we found a foreign object in the food at breakfast, which was a safety concern. The rest of the stay was pleasant. The staff were kind and attentive, and breakfast was freshly cooked with Sri Lankan and Western options. It’s a nice new hotel with clean, spacious rooms and a pleasant pool, close to the beach but still quiet and private.

The breakfast was okay, but it was very disorganized and we often waited quite a while. That wasn’t a problem unless we had plans. Even when we came down as soon as it was supposed to be served, some days we decided not to bother because we didn’t want to be late. The room was very clean when we arrived, but the cleaning during our seven-day stay wasn’t as good. They changed the sheets and towels and put a toilet block in the loo, but never mopped or cleaned the sink or toilet. The room itself was lovely, with high ceilings, good air con, a fridge, ceiling fan, and a nice bathroom. The pool was nice too, but all the sun beds were broken and very uncomfortable, so we had to relax at the beach instead, which was a shame. We arrived Friday afternoon and thought the location was good. After going out that evening, we got back around 10 pm to extremely loud techno music from across the road. I thought it would stop within an hour, but it looped until after 3 in the morning and sounded like the speaker was in my room. At first I thought it wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but I later found out the music is a family business, so they must know how it affects guests. It didn’t happen again until the following Friday.

I’m from Canada, and had an amazing stay at Hiding Unawatuna. The place is beautiful and peaceful, with lovely surroundings and a really relaxing atmosphere. It made the whole visit enjoyable, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a calm, memorable getaway.

We arrived in Unawatuna for our stay at the Hiding Unawatuna, only to be told they were fully booked, even though we had booked weeks ahead. There was no warning beforehand, communication was poor, and we didn’t get a sincere apology. Now we have to find somewhere else to stay at very short notice.
