Such a peaceful, beautiful place, and really clean, with great amenities. Krishantha was warm, welcoming, and took good care of his guests. The room was perfect, great value for money, and had an amazing view. I felt it was especially safe for solo travellers and would definitely recommend staying here. Krishantha has a tuk-tuk and can offer rides into town. The video was taken just as I was leaving!

The room was big, nice, and had everything we needed for our four-day stay. We loved our time here, and our host Krish made sure we had a pleasant visit to Unawatuna. He made us great breakfasts each morning, took us to the beach in his tuk-tuk, and spent a whole afternoon showing us around. Highly recommended. If we come back to Sri Lanka, this is where we’ll stay.

We stayed for a full week and this was the most hospitable, pleasant place of our whole trip around Sri Lanka, both the coast and the central part of the island. Old Chilli House felt like staying in a friend’s home. Our second-floor room had its own kitchen and veranda, and we loved sitting there to eat breakfast surrounded by greenery. The host’s breakfast was delicious and cost 3000 LKR for two in November 2025. We walked a lot along the Unawatuna coast and saw plenty of other places, so we felt lucky to find this one. They’re developing it nicely too. A new shared area for relaxing and dining appeared right in front of our room, along with a small pool, two sunbeds, and a drinks fridge. We wish them every success. The beach is around a pleasant 20-minute walk through the local village. The owner can drive you around the area in his tuk-tuk for 1000-1500 LKR. It’s also convenient to buy water and other drinks from him. They cost a little more than at a supermarket, but it’s much easier than carrying heavy bottles. This is a place we’d truly want to return to.

Old chilli house has beautiful surroundings, with a lovely jungle feel, and it’s only a short tuk-tuk ride from the centre of Unawatuna. We especially liked sitting on the balcony with coffee and watching the sunrise. The apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay, whether you’re there for days or months. Kris and Devika welcomed us so warmly that we felt at home straight away. Kris was a big help with planning days out and can take you places in his tuktuk. We also really recommend Devika’s cookery course. We learned to make an authentic Sri Lankan curry, and it was delicious. The fresh breakfasts were tasty too. Thanks again, Kris and Devika, for such a memorable experience. We wish we could’ve stayed longer. We’ll recommend it to anyone visiting Sri Lanka, and we’ll come back on our next visit.
