The Sri Lankan breakfasts were a real highlight, generous and different each day, with a freshly made smoothie and fabulous coffee. On our last day we had a late flight, and the hosts kindly stored our bags and let us use an outside shower so we could still enjoy the day. Our top-floor room and balcony looked out over Unawatuna Bay, and the breakfast terrace one floor above had an even better panoramic sea view. The family-run guesthouse was spotless. Our spacious room had a very comfortable bed, mosquito nets, a ceiling fan and air conditioning. The fridge came in handy for keeping the endless supply of bottled water cold, and the powerful hot shower was very welcome. We loved our three-night stay. The hosts were warm, friendly and helpful, and nothing felt like too much trouble. It’s a 10-15 minute walk up a very steep hill from the main beach. The incredible views and quiet, away from the noise of Unawatuna, more than made up for the climb. We highly recommend Lara’s Place and would happily come back.

Don’t miss breakfast on the rooftop, the food is great and changes every day. The penthouse was lovely, especially the wraparound terrace. It was an amazing stay in a beautiful property with panoramic views across the bay. Book Lara’s Place, you won’t regret it 😊

What stood out for me was the beautiful view and the delicious breakfast, along with how comfortable, quiet and relaxing it was. The owner was friendly too. For me, it’s the best of the best. If you’re considering a booking, stop thinking and book it.

The host was lovely and tried to help with everything we needed. Our room was clean and nice, and breakfast was very good, with a different selection of fruit, bread and eggs every day. We stayed three nights. The hotel is up the hill in a calm area, but unfortunately it isn’t right on the beach. We’d definitely recommend staying here when visiting Unawatuna.
