The Waves

Breakfast was served at the restaurant opposite, where free beach access and sun loungers were available too. They cleaned our room two or three times a day, and there were different towel sculptures on the bed each day. The staff were excellent, helpful, and courteous throughout. Check-in was friendly, fast, and efficient. Our room was spacious and well equipped, with a very nice bathroom and a great shower. We stayed two nights at the Waves and would definitely return. I can’t recommend it enough.

We picked this boutique hotel during the Christmas holiday season because prices were inflated and places were hard to find. After travelling to more than 100 countries, from backpacking to luxury resorts, I was surprised to find such an undiscovered gem, with hospitality that’s hard to match. The relaxed atmosphere and central Unawatuna location were lovely. You can walk to almost everything, or take a short tuk tuk ride to places farther out. The rooms were sparkling clean, cleaner than places like Anantara, and they cleaned them at least twice a day. The staff and management did everything they could to make us feel at home. They even noticed when we came back from trips and brought fresh juice, iced coffee, or sandwiches for free, without us asking. They were also very responsive on WhatsApp whenever we needed anything. Breakfast was splendid, served in four or five courses at Hot Rock across the road, right by the beach, with a breathtaking view of the ocean and waves. Special thanks to Chanuka and the manager boss. There was also a surprise in our room once or twice a day, sometimes towel artwork, and I really mean art! Highly recommended if you want great service, cleanliness, a great bathroom, superb breakfast, an amazing location, and a welcoming feel. Enjoy Sri Lankan hospitality.

We came from the UK and found the hotel clean, welcoming, and very modern, especially the fully tiled, new bathroom. The staff were kind and friendly, and always went above and beyond to help. Breakfast is at Hot Rock Restaurant across the road. There’s a full English breakfast, fruit, juices, cereal, tea, and more, and the restaurant leads straight onto the beach. You can sit at a table on the sand and enjoy the beach views. They treated us to different towel origami every morning and night.

Such a cute little hotel, and the staff are really attentive and friendly. It’s across the street from the beach, and they partner with hot rock restaurant, where you can use the daybeds.
