The next morning, the boss said Booking.com guests often don't show up because they haven't paid anything yet. It sounded like they might drop an existing booking if a 'better' one came along. He waived the charge for the night. We found a much nicer apartment nearby, though we now have to move on two days earlier than planned. As two older ladies who look for the positives in life, we felt the experience could have been worse. When we arrived, it was clear they weren't expecting us. The manager did his best, but we were hurried into a room that didn't seem to be normally used for guests, by the service area. It had no proper sheets, bare bulbs and a cockroach. When the boss arrived, he said the deluxe double room we'd booked six months earlier wasn't available and suggested we find somewhere else, which we managed to do. We recommend not using Booking.com for this accommodation. The owner suggested Expedia instead, where you pay up front.

The staff are extremely helpful and do wonders to take care of you. Still, the place needs much more care, investment and proper cleaning. In crazy Uwe, this hidden garden with birds and a spa has its value. The basic rooms are mouldy, and a cockroach bit me because I hadn't used a mosquito net.

The host is friendly and very helpful, and the beach isn't far away. It's a nice place on a busy street, tucked into a quiet hidden garden with birds singing. The Hideout restaurant in front of the hotel plays nice chillout music that isn't too loud. I recommend it. Just know that Unawatuna is very busy and popular with tourists, so it can feel a bit crowded here.

A romantic blue and white hostel, with a clean bed and linen and fair value for the budget. The host is friendly and speaks English. There's an attached spa, and it's on the Una beach road, so there's plenty going on around.

Right in the heart of unawatuna, this is a good place with friendly staff, clean rooms and reasonable prices. It's not beachfront, it's across the road. There's lots of space and ample parking, though the rooms are quite small.
