Turtle Eco Beach

I don’t know how, but a review supposedly from “me” gave this place only 1 star before I’d even arrived. The owner checked whether I was happy, and I said yes, the place is amazing. That’s when he showed me the bogus review. This one is much more accurate. If I come back to Mirissa, I’ll definitely stay at Turtle Eco Beach.

I really liked the quiet feel of Turtle Evo Beach Dune Resort in August 2023. It was low season and I was the only guest, so the stay felt especially peaceful and personal. The staff were kind, breakfast was very good each day, and the room had what I needed. It was humid, though, and I needed the AC for comfort. There were plenty of mosquitoes, but keeping the doors shut helped. The semi-outdoor bathroom was lovely and natural. A few metal taps had some rust, which made sense with the salty sea air. The garden and rooms could have used more upkeep, perhaps because it was low season. The resort is right on the beach with direct ocean access. The current was strong when I visited, but swimming was still fun and refreshing. I also enjoyed morning jogs along the beach road, past charming homes and small resorts, with light traffic and nice scenery. The Doctor’s House next door has great food and a really cool vibe, though it can get loud late at night if noise bothers you. Turtle Evo Beach Dune Resort is a characterful, relaxing beachfront spot in southern Sri Lanka, and I’d recommend it if you want a peaceful stay near good walking and jogging routes.

The pool is a fun feature, long and a little narrow, and the beach is close by. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the hosts are really friendly and helpful. It feels like a lovely little oasis. I’d definitely recommend it.

We left before spending even one night because the mosquito problem in the room was unbearable. The beds had nets, which is fine if you never get out of bed, but there were SO MANY mosquitos. The place makes up for what it lacks in beach access with mosquitoes. You have to walk about 100m along a busy road to reach a beach where you can pay to rent a chair. We were charged for all 3 nights even though we left, and the owner said the booking was non-refundable. He was there, not Sri Lankan, and seemed focused only on getting his money. Real winner. There are plenty of nice places to stay in this part of Sri Lanka, so I recommend choosing somewhere else.
