I booked just one night. Check-in was smooth and the host seemed friendly, but in the night I found a live bed bug in my bed. I packed right away and decided to leave. The host’s brother was awake. I explained what had happened and asked him to open the gate, but he refused and gestured for me to go back to sleep. I found the host, showed him a photo of the bed bug, and asked again. To my surprise, he also said he wouldn't open the gate or let me leave. He kept saying bed bugs aren't dangerous. I had to ask several times and explain why I couldn't stay there. I'd been travelling for months without accommodation problems, but this was frightening. It was the middle of the night, I was alone, and I was arguing with two local men who kept saying they wouldn't let me out. No other guests were at the property, only the host and his brother. After a while I realized I hadn't paid for the booked night. I said I was willing to pay if they let me leave, though I wouldn't be staying, and could seek compensation through Booking.com later since that's where I made the reservation. Eventually the host, sounding very frustrated, agreed to open the gate and let me go. He said I didn't need to pay. I asked again to confirm because I was ready to pay for the night and pursue compensation later. I was allowed to leave, and the host refused payment. The whole situation was extremely distressing and frightening, especially being kept there in the middle of the night.
