Railway Apartments and Hotel

The apartment is small but practical, clean and comfortable. It’s a handy location if you’re taking the train or bus to neighbouring countries, with the station a five-minute walk away. The Old Town is easy to reach, too. We didn’t see any staff, but communication by WhatsApp was great at any hour. You can leave luggage for free in a locker at the entrance, which is useful if you depart later. The downsides: hot water barely lasts for two people, and the double bed feels small, though it’s probably at least 140 cm wide.

Of the three places I stayed in Vilnius recently, this was the worst. The apartment had good equipment, but it was a tiny, depressing space. We were in the basement and couldn’t open the street-level windows properly to cool it down. There was no fan, even though we asked for one, and it was too noisy to sleep with the windows open at night. The location is poor, on what has to be the noisiest street in Vilnius, and the area felt a bit seedy, with mostly hostels around.

We liked the place enough to come back, and booked a bigger room for our second stay. The rooms are cozy and clean, with a comfortable mattress, good pillows, and everything we needed. One thing to know before arriving: rooms 6-10 are below the first floor and you enter through the gate (see photo). Rooms 1-5 are reached to the left of it.

We got lucky with this choice. Railway Apartments has a really comfortable feel and a friendly team. The location, cleanliness, and facilities were all 10 out of 10 for us. The bed linen was extra clean, and there were soft towels, coffee and tea, a dishwasher, fridge, a nice bathroom, and a little coffee table. Amazing!
