It felt like a home away from home, and I’m looking forward to coming back. There’s a decent view of the river, with downtown an easy walk away and lots to see and do. The train and bus depot takes about 15 minutes to reach on foot.

We found the owner extremely friendly, and they gave us some great tips for our time in Riga. The apartment itself is modern, clean, and well maintained, with the city attractions nearby. The neighborhood and buildings around it may feel a bit alarming at first, but after a couple of days we felt it was safe. It’s a short walk to the riverbank, then about ten minutes from there to the old town. The big open market is also five minutes away on foot. Inside, there’s a kitchen with new appliances, a dining area, a sofa facing a large TV with lots of satellite channels, and an upstairs bedroom on the second level. There always seems to be street parking in front. The main drawback is the lack of views, apart from the partly demolished buildings nearby.

Watch out for the deposit. After I paid the booking fee of €200 through Booking.com, a request came for an additional deposit. Booking.com and the host insist it isn't a hidden fee, but it wasn't disclosed publicly. They wouldn't let me cancel if I refused to pay, and the owner wouldn't rent the place without the deposit. They didn't care that I was in Riga with my family and had nowhere to stay. A total rip-off.
