Set in Riga's Old Town, Jacob's Barracks is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. The building dates from the 17th-century Swedish rule, when it was built as barracks, and it still keeps its historic appearance. Its exterior is decorated with coats of arms representing Latvian cities and regions. Today, the building contains offices, shops, and restaurants.

Across from the Powder Tower stands a striking yellow building, its facade decorated with Latvian heraldic pins. It leads into a lively street lined with great bars, where you can have Latvian beer, hot drinks, and good food.
