Monte Kristo Hotel

We only stayed two nights, but it was a very pleasant visit. The rooms were spacious, clean, and charming, with an old castle feel. Our bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had a big bathtub. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was fine, with nearly everything you’d need, though honey for cereal or tea would have been nice. We tried the solyanka soup on departure day too, and it was delicious.

The Old Town is right nearby, and Hotel Monte Kristo is only a short walk from the bus station. Restaurants, bars, cafés, and most of the town’s attractions are easy to reach on foot. My room was clean and neat, breakfast was included and good, and the staff were helpful and friendly.

We won’t be coming back, even though the hotel is fairly cheap and right in the city center. The bed was awful, with springs digging into my back, and each of us had just one small pillow. The blanket was uncomfortable too. Hair kept catching in the sheets, and there was always hair on the bed. The whole hotel smelled bad, and our windows wouldn’t open properly. Breakfast was poor as well. The buffet room was small, dark, and smelled of fish, with no window. The tablecloth was always dirty, and the food generally wasn’t good.

The location worked perfectly for visiting central Riga and the Old Town. I also liked the old building and its furniture and decor. The young man at reception was friendly and helpful, and breakfast was satisfying.
