Hotel Sindibad

The heater is set to 31°C, but my room is still cold, the lobby is warmer, and there’s no hot water. A technician has tried to help four times. The WiFi also doesn’t work on my second-floor room. I’m in bed wearing full winter gear, including a puffer jacket, scarf, and fleece hat, with bad WiFi and no hot shower. I’m glad I’m leaving tomorrow. I booked this place for my last night because it was cold at night and my previous two coastal hotels had no heat, which seems normal in Morocco in December. I’d frozen before and wanted a warm room and hot shower. The staff told me not to expect what I’d get in my own country and to adjust my expectations. I speak fluent French and explained I’d spent two months in Morocco, in the North, Marrakesh, the South, and the desert. When I book a hotel with heat, it blows hot air and works. They said, “No, not in Morocco,” which isn’t true. The technician told me to be patient four hours ago, but it’s still not working. I’m trying to be nice, but I can’t.

A great affordable hotel, with a supermarket very close by and a neighborhood that isn’t too noisy. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels.

Breakfast was a highlight, especially the amazing fresh orange juice. The hotel is decent for such a low price. A few staff members could be abrupt or rude when we asked questions. Our kids got a rash after using the pool, and the staff became defensive and angry when we asked them to check it.

The breakfast was good, and the location works well if you want to see a more traditionally Moroccan side of town. Talborjt is part of the old city, though it seems people are gradually moving toward the newer areas. The staff were very nice and resilient, which is why I gave two stars. The hotel itself needs serious renovation and ongoing maintenance. The room looked nicely decorated, but that didn't make it comfortable. The bed was hard, the balcony window was difficult to shut, and it wasn't soundproof. In the bathroom, the pipes were rusty, there was a strong smell, and the toilet was broken. A few other things were broken here and there too.
