Ksar Salha

Ksar Salha is a charming family-run boutique hotel, rather than a regular 4 star hotel, and that makes it all the more appealing if you want authenticity, quiet, and friendly, discreet but attentive service. Fatiha and her family were wonderful hosts, always discreetly there when we needed something. We had a relaxing holiday at this beautiful place, about half an hour's drive from Marrakesh. It's a lovingly restored 10th century family palace in a lush garden with olive and palm trees, and there's a lovely 20-meter swimming pool. During our November-December stay, it was heated to 24/25 degrees. The local traditional food was delicious. On the days we wanted to eat less, the sandwiches and salades were very good too. The place is full of good energy.

Ksar Salha was a lovely retreat. We arrived to a warm welcome, and left feeling completely recharged. It's set amid peaceful nature, beautiful gardens, and striking mountain views. Our room was clean and cozy, with tasteful decor and authentic Moroccan details. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and respectful of our privacy. Breakfast was fresh and generous, served with a smile, and changed every day during our several nights there. Dinner was delicious too, with a lovely taste of local cuisine.

We especially enjoyed the homemade food, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The team were kind, attentive, and discreet. We felt well cared for without being overwhelmed. At Ksar Salha, the garden is lush and well kept, and the spotless pool and charming, comfortable rooms all add to the calm, positive atmosphere. It's a lovely place to step away from the world and reconnect with yourself. The style and cleanliness show thoughtful attention to detail. A peaceful, beautiful choice for couples, solo travelers, or anyone looking for a quiet break.

Fatiha was very responsive, which helped a lot with our young child. She even made sure our taxi had a car seat. The Atlas Mountain views were breathtaking, the grounds beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing the tortoises and peacocks. The traditional architecture has real charm. If you're open-minded and want to switch off completely, have little choice or activity, and experience Moroccan family life, this could be a perfect escape. But we were disappointed by several things. The food was poor. Guests aren't allowed to bring in food, and with no shops or restaurants nearby, the limited menu became hard to choose from after a few nights. The cocktails tasted like nothing and were expensive for what they were. There's no afternoon tea or honesty bar, so the only food options are lunch and dinner. I saw one review call the meals Michelin-worthy, and that just isn't true. We tried five different main dishes, and they were all bad, often dominated by one flavor and badly overcooked. For example, the Bastila had very dark, tough chicken under a huge amount of cinnamon. It was really unpleasant. Nobody proactively asked if we wanted anything, whether a drink, pool towels, or even room cleaning. We had to ask for everything we got. That's fine, but it changed the experience and made us feel like a nuisance. Other parts of the property need work too: the gym barely exists, as only a pair of dumbbells worked; our room needed a deep clean; we found a cockroach in the bed, and although rain outside could have brought it in, the dirt under the bed suggested it might have been there a while. The animals' smell made the pool area unpleasant, and the towels we were given were damp. We did stay at Ksar Salha in a quiet period, and one night we were the only guests. Maybe we're just not the right kind of guests for a place like this. Still, the stay let us down so much that we left a night early. To their credit, Fatiha and her husband apologized for the two issues we raised. But when we asked what they'd do about our problems, Fatiha refunded only the last evening meal. That summed up the stay for us.
