Hostal La Joya

If you're traveling on a budget, this is a good fit. It's one of the cheapest hostels, so don't expect luxury, but it had what I needed for the low price. The breakfast was plentiful and made fresh just in time by the very friendly staff. The place feels authentic, has a wonderful mountain view, and is very close to the old city.

We got a free breakfast on the terrace, and it was good. The host was very kind, while the rest of the staff didn't particularly stand out. The place is lovely, with a great view of the river and cascade. It's in the old Medina, though a little off-center.

The new owner is wonderful, and the staff were so helpful. I was impressed by how many languages they spoke, including French, English, and Spanish. The hostel has been recently renovated, it's clean and tidy, and the location is lovely, with gorgeous views and easy access. We had a fabulous stay, despite some of the reviews I'd seen. Great value for the price, and I look forward to coming back.

The price was cheap, the location good, and it was fairly easy to find. On the second day, a really nice staff member did show up. But the reception was unfriendly and unwelcoming, the showers and toilet were dirty, and we found a bedbug in a room. I arrived in mid-December and the whole hostel was cold, which isn't unusual in Morocco, but nobody tried to make it comfortable. There was no heater or light, and the common areas were unusable because they weren't insulated and were freezing. This was the only hostel in Morocco that I didn't enjoy.
