Dar Al Madina Al Kadima

Mehdi was a wonderful receptionist and handyman, always kind, polite, and ready to help. He really added to our experience of the city. The location is 10/10, and the riad was clean, with daily room cleaning. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent and plentiful, especially on the terrace. My only note for the owner is the same one other customers have mentioned: there can be a slight damp smell in the rooms. Otherwise, everything was very good.

The house’s Moroccan tiling, plasterwork, and woodwork were beautiful throughout, and the rooms and bathrooms were really clean. The staff were among the nicest people I met in Morocco and were exceptionally accommodating. Breakfast was huge and delicious, the rooms were nice, and the hot water worked well. We stayed twice, in a different room each time, once in a two-bed room and once in a one-bed room. The second room smelled a bit odd, though it wasn’t the bedding, and it didn’t bother us much. I’d definitely recommend staying here in Fes!

The location is excellent, which is why I’m giving three stars. The five rooms and halls are beautifully decorated in classical Morrocan style, but the place isn’t managed well. Our room was kept clean, though there was a constant smell. Breakfast took a long time to prepare, and the kitchen was clearly understaffed. In fact, one person was serving and handling the kitchen at the same time.

The location is a 10/10, and Hamza was so helpful. He works incredibly hard, seems able to handle everything, and kindly waited so we could have breakfast. He was always ready to help, which really makes a riad feel like a riad. The owner should improve the ventilation, since several people have mentioned the smell. The Wi-Fi was also extremely slow and our network barely worked in the room, maybe one bar if we were lucky.
