Darif's Riad Fes

The location is tucked away at one edge of the Medina, so getting around meant a walk. It was fine, just not especially convenient. The room itself was clean, the AC worked properly, and having a mini fridge for cold water was handy. The staff were friendly too. Those were the good parts; compared with the other riads we stayed in Morocco, this one felt merely okay. Breakfast was mostly bread and cake, with no fruit, and I wasn't keen on the low tables because I worried about spilling food onto my lap. Leaving was also stressful. We'd mentioned our desert tour and early start when we arrived, but at 7:30 am on departure day the staff member was asleep, and the card machine wasn't charged when he woke up. Sorting payment took a lot of back and forth, and I had to do more work later to resolve it. I know I could have checked again the night before, but nobody was around when we returned and I didn't feel like tracking someone down. For a place I was paying to stay, it felt like too much effort. If you're leaving early, or at any time, I'd check your departure plans the day before and ask them to charge the card machine.

The riad was clean and pleasant, though the spa wasn't operating, supposedly just for a few days. The staff's friendliness felt a bit false because they kept pressing us to buy tourist services, especially meals. We'd already chosen another dinner option after reading reviews, and had told them we had a cooking class booked, but both men kept urging us toward their restaurant. They brought it up when we arrived, over the welcome tea, as we left while reminding us we were late for class, and again when we came back. The biscuits and packed breakfast weren't very good quality, though having something to take along for the desert trip was useful.

We felt at home here because the hosts were so helpful throughout our stay. The Riad was comfortable, with good service, a tasty Moroccan breakfast, and a convenient location. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Our breakfast here was probably the best of the whole trip, and the property itself was gorgeous, with very new facilities. When we arrived, a staff member met us on the Main Street, carried our luggage, and showed us around. This was easily our favorite riad stay in Morocco. We'd happily recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable place.
