Hotel Sofia

The location is really good, near a main street that’s nice for walking and a shopping center with a supermarket and a shop selling alcohol. Handy for tourists who miss having a cold beer on a hot afternoon. The furniture in the rooms is old, though they’re clean enough. The food was basic and nothing special.

It’s close to the city center, and I liked that the food had a French flavor, though the portions were small. The internet was weak, and the hotel feels like it’s from the 70s, not up to its star category.

The one thing going for this place is its spot in Fes’ Ville Nouvelle. The rest was just bad. The rooms have a 70s feel, right down to an ancient phone and a TV that belongs in a museum. Those sausage-shaped pillows stretched and folded my neck so badly I woke at 3:00 am and threw one on the floor. The lobby stinks, the lifts are always full, so I had to take the stairs every time. The food was miserable too, with a cheap spread of badly cooked, plastic-like vegetables and no meat at all. Coke cost 15 dirhams (€2). Two stars for the location. Try sleeping somewhere else.

I slept like a baby in the clean, quiet room, and the staff were friendly. I liked the 20th century vibe and will definitely come back when I’m in Fes again. The internet could be better, though.
