I was intimidated by Khalid after I complained. I reported it to the police, who told me they were bad people and that locals in Fez knew about it. Don’t trust what you read online. When you get to Fes, there are lots of DAR hostels near the big blue gate, with a much better location and cheap prices.

The location might make you wonder where you’ve ended up at first, but it’s absolutely worth it. We stayed with my girlfriend in July 2016, and the two people at the riad were incredibly kind and helpful. They brought us delicious food from the snack bar and did everything we asked. The building itself was impressive. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

DO NOT FORGET: THIS IS A NETWORK TO SCAM TOURISTS. It was terrible. We booked on Booking.com, but the listed location didn’t match the one on Google Maps and it took us a long time to find the place. They had lots of young people offering to lead visitors to the Riad for 1.5 or 2 euros. Once we got there, we were told it was full, even though Booking.com still showed rooms available. Three other groups with reservations turned up within 10 minutes. Then they took us to other places, which in our case were lower quality than what we’d booked, while insisting the price and conditions were the same. At checkout they tried to charge us twice as much. They also cancelled our Booking.com reservation so they could charge cancellation fees.

The bathroom was very dirty, and the walk to the riad is incredibly long. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and regularly offered tea and coffee, which we were glad to accept. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, and the location is generally very nice.
