Riad Al Bartal

The food at Riad Al Bartal was the highlight for us. After trying plenty of highly rated restaurants in Marrakech and Fez, we thought the meals here were easily the best of our trip. The cooks made a different set menu each night with fresh ingredients and wonderful flavors. We looked forward to dinner every day. Breakfast was tasty and generous, with something different each morning. Our suite, Taquile, the Superior Double Room, was gorgeous and spacious, with the highest ceilings we've ever slept under. The mattress was very firm, which bothered my back, though folding the single bed cover underneath me helped. Someone without back problems might be fine with it. The place itself is full of art and lovely details. We enjoyed relaxing in the lush courtyard after exploring, and the rooftop gives a beautiful 360 degree view. Poulette, the owner's pet bird, sang around the courtyard through the day and added to the atmosphere. The location right at the edge of the Medina made it easy to find, which matters in such a maze of a city. The warm staff made our stay even better: Hamza, Dounia, Fatine, Hassan, Zeyad, Fouad, and the owner Ray were all incredibly kind. We had five wonderful nights and were sad to leave. We hope to be lucky enough to return.
