We only stayed because we got in at 9 in the evening and one of us was ill. Otherwise, we’d have left straight away. This place spoiled the end of a lovely vacation, and I can’t recommend it. We had booked seven rooms, so it wasn’t just one bad room: every room and bathroom was dirty, with cockroaches in every bath and rust or marks on the towels and sheets. There was a bad smell throughout, probably from the drainage. Breakfast was minimal, Moroccan basics plus eggs. After we complained, they said they’d clean the next day, but they only tidied up. The shampoo bag was still where I’d left it that morning. The pool was small and dirty, and the rooftop area wasn’t attractive. The owner doesn’t live there and didn’t seem to care much. At first he was polite, then got furious and bullied us, while trying to excuse everything as normal in Morocco. We’ve been to the country before.

It gets cold after dark, but there were several heaters in the room and it was warm and comfortable at night once the staff turned them on for us. The shower had strong, pleasant water pressure, and the internet was very fast. We had to go downstairs to ask for shampoo and soap because neither was in the bathroom. The location is great for Médina attractions, with plenty of restaurants near the blue gate, about a five-minute walk away. We liked the Riad’s strong old Moroccan luxury feel, which was what we’d hoped to experience, though it’s old and could use renovations. Breakfast was my one complaint: three kinds of bread or pancakes, all starchy, with no protein.

The hosts were lovely and helped us book our tour around Morocco. Our room was very spacious and the breakfast was good. As usual in Morocco, it was the same basic breakfast, so don’t expect fruit. The riad is nice and sits in the medina of Fès. It does have a pool, though it’s so tiny I’m not sure it can really be called one. The bathroom is quite old and needs restoration, and the towels were very old too.

Monin, Monia and Sophi were so welcoming and made us a great breakfast. The bed was warm and comfortable, even in December, and it felt more like staying in a guest house than a hotel. There are also some great food options nearby.

The welcome was very friendly, and the mint tea was lovely. I had the best tagine I’ve eaten in Morocco, but it was overpriced for this area: one tagine cost as much as a two-course meal with drinks just up the road. In January the place was absolutely freezing. Rooms are very basic, with blankets instead of duvets, and the bathroom door handle was hanging off. WiFi doesn’t reach the rooms. The people were very pleasant, but the place is basic.
