Hotel Atlas

I paid for two nights and left after one. During my six weeks in Morocco, this place was a huge disappointment. The room felt more like a prison cell than a hotel, and it was dirty, noisy, and stinky, with no respect for guests. The receptionist told me they “dont care about single rooms, because they are for poor people”.

We had the family room for five, with two double beds and a single. It was simple but comfortable, and worked well as a base for exploring Marrakech since it’s right near the El Fna square. The room felt spacious enough despite only having a small window onto the courtyard and a fan instead of A/C. The hotel is well kept, and the roof terrace is nice.

There wasn’t much to the room beyond a bed and a small table, and the rooms are cramped, small, and smelly. The washbasin inside made ours smell especially bad, so we had to air it out often. It really doesn’t look like the pictures. The location is great, just a two-minute walk to medina, and the receptionist was nice. We would have changed hotels once we saw this one if we’d been able to find another suitable place.

I had a good time here, and liked the decor and atmosphere. It felt like a good way to experience Moroccan culture and lifestyle. The room was quite a bargain for the time I spent there, and the location is close to the medina and main square. I just wish I’d known how to reach it from the opposite direction on my first day, because there were a lot of suspicious men outside trying to scam me.
