La Maison Des Oliviers

The room was spacious and the private pool was a lovely touch. We also enjoyed the on-site hammam and the food, which was consistently tasty. The hotel is nice and set away from the city centre, though you can get there by car. I was surprised that a 4 star hotel charged for the 10 minute shuttle into town. The main pool was large, but despite being described as heated, it was far too cold for us. After rain, the poolside beds were soaked because they weren’t covered. The room had a fridge, hair dryer, shampoo and shower gel, but no tea or coffee setup or other toiletries such as cotton buds, a shaving kit or shower cap. We booked a Double Deluxe with Full Board at the Maisons des Oliviers for our honeymoon. Aziz welcomed us and kindly upgraded our room for free, saying we would be all inclusive. At lunch, we asked the poolside waiter which drinks were included, and he pointed to the soft drinks, beers and first two wines in each section. During our five days, we had breakfast, lunch and dinner, with one drink each per meal. At checkout, Redwan gave us a bill for tax, which we expected, plus all our drinks. He said they didn’t offer an “all inclusive” option. Aziz was put on the phone and kept saying “you know what you booked,” became aggressive and hung up. We were shocked because Aziz had told us we were all inclusive, and the waiter had specifically shown us the included drinks. Sitting in reception being called liars was upsetting and embarrassing. We weren’t trying to con anyone, especially as we’d only had one drink each with meals, mostly soft drinks. It’s a shame the staff became so unfriendly and aggressive at the end, because otherwise it could have been a lovely trip. For Marrakech travellers, we’d recommend a hot air balloon ride and trying the Hawai soda.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the shuttle or taxi to the airport or medina was efficient and decent value. The driver was friendly too. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of fruit, bread, tuna, coffee and eggs made to order. It’s about a 15 minute trip from the airport. First impressions were great: a quiet, attractive hotel with beautiful gardens and a pool. The room was clean and adequate, though not luxurious, and the mattress was too firm for me. There are plenty of places by the pool to set up a sunbed, with birds singing in the trees. Sometimes the bar music was too loud and spoiled the atmosphere, though at other times the volume was just right. We ate dinner outside in a nice setting. The food seemed a bit overpriced and not the best quality, but it was convenient to eat there instead of going out. There doesn’t seem to be anything nearby within walking distance. The area beyond the hotel walls is very run down and primitive, though you don’t notice it inside this beautiful property. I’ll definitely stay again.

The main pool was beautiful and the service there was very nice. We were glad we only booked one night, though. The neighboring area felt rough, the rooms were very dated, and our “upgraded” room had a loose, leaking toilet and no hot shower water. Dogs barked all night, and the dining room was sad.

The room was excellent and conveniently close to the restaurant and pool. Customer service was amazing, especially Abdul Aziz, who was very helpful with suggestions for historic places to visit locally.
