Riad Tizwa

The riad is just off a main street in the medina, so it’s easy to find, you don’t have to carry your cases far, and taxis are easy to get. You can reach the tourist sights quickly, but ordinary neighbourhoods are close too. The courtyard and our room were really peaceful and quiet. Up on the top terrace, the sunniest spot can be a bit windy, though that’s refreshing, and you can hear some traffic from the main street. It’s a city, and headphones block it out. We had a brilliant five-night stay. The service felt personal and warm, and everyone was so helpful from the start. Hassan greeted us at the airport with tea, and the whole team made the place feel like a special find. Breakfast on the beautiful terrace was a joyful start to every day. There was a generous spread of fresh bread, eggs, pancakes, fruit, granola, yoghurt, jams, coffee, orange juice and honey, and you could ask for more. They also did our laundry for a small fee, which was very helpful. Thanks to the whole team for such a great stay.

What made me love Riad Tizwa was how conveniently it’s placed, just steps from the main road but still quiet. The medina, restaurants, Bacha coffee, and a spa/massage place were all within walking distance. My room was beautiful, the staff and manager had an easy, warm manner, and I slept so comfortably. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, especially the homemade yogurt. I’d arranged my own day trips and was nervous about pickup details because I don’t speak the local language. Hassan, the manager, called the tour companies the day before to confirm where and when they’d collect me, which put my mind at ease. On a rainy day when the company changed the pickup spot and I couldn’t understand the instructions, a female staff member spoke with them on the phone, grabbed an umbrella, and walked me there like a caring sister. Such a lovely gesture.

The rooms, especially the bathrooms, could use some major updates. The room felt quite damp, and a bathroom exhaust fan would help with the moisture. The towels and hair dryer were pretty old. I appreciated the owners’ intention to keep a traditional style, though. I stayed for three nights and had a good experience. The on-site staff were very nice, especially Hassan and Hamid, who were friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to help guests feel comfortable and welcome. Their care made a real difference.

Daniel’s dining recommendations were spot on, and Hassan and Aziz arranged our airport rides and booked a guide for us. The rooms were airy and comfortable, breakfast was terrific, and the location right in the center of everything was hard to beat. My wife and I stayed at Riad Tizwa in November, and Daniel, Hassan, Aziz, and the rest of the staff were wonderful. A great experience.
