The noise and location weren't great, especially for a female traveler, and I wouldn't trust the owner. Please be really careful. I chose this hostel because I was a young woman looking for somewhere safe in the Medina of Marrakesh, and I trusted its positive reviews. It was the worst choice I could have made. The room with a private bathroom that I'd booked didn't exist when I arrived. Instead, they put me in a tiny room full of mold, cracks, and dust. I was promised the room I'd paid for the next morning, but didn't get it until 3pm, and it still had no private bathroom. They were overbooked. I wasn't refunded, though they offered me “discounts” if I booked their tours and activities. Both were cheap, disappointing, and not worth it.

The staff made it feel like I was spending time with old friends. We chatted and laughed, and I felt they took the safety of everyone staying there seriously. Youssef came to feel like a cousin, and I loved how proud he was of his Berber heritage. It’s a no-frills hostel, about a 15-minute walk from the square, with plenty of little diners along the way for a quick bite.

Overbooking seemed to be common at this riad, and we met other guests who had issues too. Our own problems started right away: the room with a private bathroom that we booked wasn’t available, so we were put in a small, dirty emergency room. The following day we moved to a more normal room, but it still didn’t have the private bathroom we’d paid for. I wouldn’t book tours here either. The prices were similar to other agencies, but it felt like they picked the cheapest options to make more money. Our quads were in bad shape and felt dangerous, and the desert tour had several extra charges we hadn’t been told about. The owner’s friendliness felt fake. When we said overbooking wasn’t professional, he answered, “welcome to Africa, I'm a business man.” The worst hostel I’ve stayed in, run by the least professional people I’ve met.

The rooftop was a great spot to unwind after a full day, and Youssef’s hospitality and generosity were hard to beat. It’s a beautiful building in an ideal place for exploring the city. I’d happily recommend staying here.

Mohamed and his family gave us really good service, and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was very good, and they welcomed us with a lovely tea. The rooftop was a nice place to spend time and meet other people. A really good hostel in Marrakech, I’d definitely recommend it.
