Hotel Bab Sahara

I come back every time I’m in Ouarzazate, and it’s never let me down. The location on the main square is great, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It’s perfect if you’re watching your budget and just need an inexpensive bed and a roof. Don’t expect a five-star hotel, because you won’t enjoy it if that’s how you judge it. I’ll be back.

The room had working air conditioning and a good hot shower, and the hotel is very close to the square, where you can walk to some nice restaurants. But the room is old and really needs renovation, and for the overall quality I felt it was overpriced. Breakfast was average.

The staff made the place for me. They were funny, friendly, and helpful, even though the building is old and definitely not new. Our room was clean, the air conditioning worked well, and we had a small balcony overlooking the square. On a warm evening we ate just steps away from the hotel, with local children playing and chatting around us. Fridays can be noisy late into the night, since they’re special family days in Morocco, but we slept well. Breakfast before we left included juice, coffee, tea, bread with butter, olive oil, jam, and honey, plus an omelette. It’s a great location, and the walk to the airport is a simple, straight 25 minutes.

The best thing is where it sits, right in the middle of Mouhideen Square, which gets lively at night. The staff looked after us and were kind whenever we needed anything. Breakfast is included. The shower could be better, and the place is simple, nothing fancy, but decent for the price.
