The distance to town shaped our stay more than anything else. The hotel was said to be near the city, but it took about 30-40 minutes by car depending on traffic. Going in each day cost both time and money, and the place was often quiet because it was so far out. We even spoke with guests who had switched hotels over the distance. There was plenty to like once we got there: the grounds were cared for, the facilities were good, and our room was lovely with a great view. The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to make us comfortable. We arrived much later in the afternoon than planned because our flight was delayed, which made for a less than ideal start. Breakfast got repetitive, with little choice, and fresh fruit only appeared after guests asked. The omelettes made fresh were the best part, but the main menu was limited too, so we ate most lunches and dinners elsewhere. The towels and robes were also old and worn and need replacing. We still enjoyed parts of our holiday thanks to the hardworking team, and the hotel itself is attractive. But between the location and the food options, I wouldn't come back.

The people are what made AG Hotel stand out. Adil and the whole team were professional, thoughtful, and genuinely kind. Aziz, Issa, and Bushra especially went out of their way to make our few days memorable. It's a little outside town, so the atmosphere is peaceful, relaxing, and very clean. We felt welcome as soon as we arrived. Great work by everyone, we'll be back soon.

The main drawback is how far it is from central Marrakesh. If you want to spend time there, the distance is a real challenge. A taxi to the Medina was around £15, but getting back could cost £30 once drivers started talking about the hotel's distance, about 20 km away. The hotel is very quiet and out of the way, and could use a little care on the outside. Inside, the rooms are large, modern, and spacious. Staff are super friendly and can't do enough to help. There's a reasonably priced spa and a gym. Lunch and dinner are available, and breakfast is freshly cooked and reasonably priced.

We ended up paying £150 for the spa, and the delay at checkout made us miss our flight. We then had to spend another night in Morocco, book a different hotel, and cover more unexpected costs. I'm sharing what happened so other travellers know about our experience. The stay had been smooth until checkout morning. Our flight was at 10:00 a.m., so we went to reception around 7:00 a.m. to return the key. A staff member stopped us and demanded £150 for spa services, repeating that it was for the spa and because we were tourists. When we asked for an explanation, he wouldn't give one and insisted we pay immediately. My friend and I had been welcomed with Moroccan tea when we arrived. Adel, one of the managers, asked if it was our first time in Morocco. When we said yes, he offered to upgrade our stay and said we were “like family” at his hotel. It was my birthday, so we were grateful and excited. During a tour that included the spa, Adel said the sauna, hammam, and massage treatments would be complimentary for us because of my birthday. We explained this at checkout and asked them to contact Adel if there was a misunderstanding. Instead, another manager, a woman, was called. I understand Arabic and heard her tell the staff member not to let us leave until we paid. She also said that, even though our Uber was waiting outside, we wouldn't be getting into it until the payment was made. Worried we'd miss our flight, we felt pressured and paid despite not getting an explanation. Later, we found that the usual spa fee for tourists at this property is about £12.50, which makes the amount we were made to pay extremely questionable. The only reason I gave this hotel one star is that I couldn't give zero.

The one downside is the trip into the city centre, which takes nearly 30-40 minutes. If that doesn't bother you, I'd definitely book this place. It's a top hotel otherwise, with quiet surroundings and a pool that was cleaned every day. My husband booked us a deluxe double room, and it was far bigger than I expected. It was really nice and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I loved staying here.
