Hôtel Safari Vezo Anakao

The little lodges are lovely, right on the shore, but the menu is limited, especially for breakfast. There isn't a pool or anywhere else to sit apart from the beach or bar. And trying to sit peacefully on the beach to enjoy the view or read was impossible because local kids and Fagin gangs kept harassing us endlessly. One guest brought a bag of things for local children, but a local woman snatched it from her hands and handed the items out. I suspect some were sold to other women.

We had a very spacious deluxe room at this nice hotel right on the beach. There's no airco, but we didn't need it because air comes through the gap between the roof and walls. The restaurant served very good food, and the personnel were friendly.

Bring enough cash in ariary or euros to cover the bill, since they don't take cards or other currencies. They don't offer activities like scuba diving or kayak rental, but Il Chameleon or Longo Vezo are only a 15 minute walk along the beach if you want to arrange something. The bungalows, staff and food were all great, and the restaurant was excellent. We had reliable electricity, solar hot water heaters that fed the bungalows directly, and easy beach access with lounge chairs and shade.

I asked the lady for the wifi password when I ordered a drink, but she wouldn't give it to me because I wasn't staying at their hotel. I explained that I really needed internet since there was no connection in the village where I was staying with local people, but she didn't care. I even offered to pay to get online for 15 minutes and she still said no. A guest from a nearby hotel heard us and offered his cellphone's hotspot. It made me sad to see a local lady refuse a tourist a brief internet connection when I come to Madagascar wanting to help people there with food, water, clothes, and some money.
