Maison Lovasoa

The team were lovely and spoke enough English to help me out. They arranged an airport pickup, and someone even walked into town with me to help organize a shuttle to another town. The location made it easy to walk into town for errands and up to the old town for sightseeing, and there’s a garden where you can relax. My room was simple but clean, with a hot shower, warm duvets for the cold nights, and very good WiFi. Breakfast and dinner were simple, freshly prepared and clean. You can pay a small amount to upgrade the basic breakfast included with the room.

A nice little place right in the city center, and the staff were the best part. From reception to the cleaners, everyone was professional, kind and helpful, and they made me feel at home. Fny was especially kind and polite. Thank you all!

While I was having dinner in the hotel’s own dining area, someone took money from my purse in my locked room: 40,000 AR and 10 USD. They didn’t take everything, but enough that it seemed calculated to avoid suspicion. I don’t find the people here trustworthy. This feels more like a hostel with private rooms for one or two people than a hotel. I do not recommend it.

Maison lovasoa is a beautiful old mansion turned into a hotel, a real gem amid the poverty in Antananarivo. The staff were very kind and accommodating. If you need help getting downtown, a local guide is a good idea, especially if you don’t look African. Ask for Murphy at the hotel. He’s kind and very smart about keeping clients away from the taxi drivers and other people who grab at you, who can be quite aggressive here.
