Hotel de la Poste

Dinner on our first evening was excellent, both the food and the service. The price was a little high for the area, but I was fine with it. I’m here on holiday with my brother, who’d been urging me to come to Madagascar for a long time. I’m not staying at the hotel, so this is only about the restaurant’s dinner and breakfast service. At breakfast, most of the staff were cheerful. I asked one person about a jam flavor and they didn’t know, so they checked with a young woman. She replied in Malagasy, “jam is jam,” then added, “peach jam,” with a sneer. I don’t understand Malagasy, but that first phrase was easy enough to grasp. I asked because I have food allergies and, for example, can’t eat strawberries. If the peach label was wrong, that could put people at risk. A manager should address this. I didn’t raise it with the woman or her boss at the time because I thought it wasn’t important, but on reflection, it is.

I was extremely dissatisfied with the stay. The room itself was nice, but the service was poor and checkout came with an attempt to overcharge us. Breakfast was also a problem both times: there were flies on the food, and the coffee tasted so salty it was undrinkable. It seemed to have been made with running water instead of filtered water.

The owner is such a nice, accommodating woman. If you run into her and have a problem with the hotel, you can speak to her directly. 😊😊

The rooms are tidy, breakfast is good, and it’s a nice hotel. Highly recommend.
