Hotel Belvedere Ohrid

The old building and its palace-like decor charmed us as soon as we arrived. Our beds were very comfortable, the rooms had air conditioning, and the receptionist who welcomed us was especially kind and did everything she could to make us feel at home. We stayed two nights, the last day of March and the first of April. The breakfasts were a real disappointment, especially for a four-star hotel that charges for a buffet. On the first morning, the burek seemed reheated, the bread was stale, the sliced cheese was drying out, and the apples and tangerines looked withered or spotted. The second morning was worse: the bread was still from the day before, and the halva and little cakes looked picked over. There had been fried and scrambled eggs at the buffet on day one, apparently because a tour group was there. On day two, we asked for the same, but a staff member who spoke very little English brought omelets and boiled eggs instead. With only us and one other couple staying, they chose not to put out a buffet, so there were fewer options. For this kind of personalized service, it’s a pity no one available spoke English. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, and I understand we visited Ohrid in the low season, but a service that’s sold should still be provided. Maybe hotels in the area could form a consortium and send guests to one hotel of the same standard, which might help maintain quality and guest satisfaction.
