Calla Bella Residence

We’ve chosen this place twice, and my family and I were comfortable there, two adults and two kids. It’s right in the center, so getting around on foot is easy.

The location is good, and the man who checked us in was kind and helpful. He carried our luggage. But the place felt sketchy and frightening. Parking is off site, costs 10€, and the guy takes your car away to park it. The rooms smell like shit from the drain, literally. They didn’t feel secure, the furniture was old, and we only got one small towel. The neighborhood was loud. The lift looked 100 years old, and the staircases barely had any light. I don’t recommend it at all.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. We noticed the room needed curtains, asked for them, and they had them up by the time we got back from walking around the square. The location is close to the main square, with taxis and buses handy. The room itself was average but comfortable enough. The bathroom needs renovating because water leaks out after a shower and stays on the floor for a long time. The kitchenette could also be cleaner and better stocked.

I got the impression the underpaid waitress ends up taking all the guests’ complaints, while the owner is greedy. There was only one girl working, and she seemed clearly overworked. When we asked for coffee, there wasn’t any, and breakfast took half an hour to arrive. Then we got just a few cucumber and tomato slices. We never got a receipt when we paid in the morning. The second time I asked for one by email, but it never came. We stayed there twice. Both times, when we handed over the key, they asked us to cancel the Booking.com reservation, saying there had been a “room change.” Only on our second stay did we realize they were doing it to avoid Booking.com fees. They also didn’t ask for our documents, which seemed like a way to avoid paying taxes. The old apartment building felt creepy and disgusting. The elevator wasn’t working, the rooms were dirty, and the shower was filthy with only cold water. I’ve stayed in all kinds of places, from budget to high end, and never seen anything like it. It felt like a joke.
