The setting is the best part for me: the resort sits in a little pine forest, and the winding drive from the highway to reception feels romantic. I loved walking the curving paths between the bungalows in the early morning and evening. The wooden bungalow designs are distinctive, and the quiet, green surroundings would make a lovely honeymoon spot. There’s also a Golf Club attached. Breakfast includes tasty local dishes like Shan Noodles, Steamed Curry and Rice Pack, and Hot Tofu. The staff are warm and helpful, almost like family. Still, the rates feel high for the basic services and amenities. There’s no gym, pool, or concierge, and the meeting room could use more toilets. The honey villas seem dated, including the tubs, showers, and toilet seats. TV had just one local channel, and I had to ask staff to locate the hair dryer hidden in a drawer. With those issues addressed, this could be a real paradise.

We were four women staying one night last weekend, and felt safe and had lots of fun. Our B type room was cozy, with modern amenities, and the whole place had a relaxing, family-friendly feel. The staff were kind and handled all our requests, including arranging a car rental at a fair price. My only complaint is that there’s no free Wi-Fi at Aye Tha Yar Golf Resort. The food was good, and the rooms were clean. There were only two bicycles, and both were so old they were hard to ride around the property.

I’ve been staying here since 2004, and the people I’ve met here are the best I’ve experienced in Shan State. I have nothing bad to say. The staff and manager are so friendly that it feels like being in my own hometown, and they’re extremely attentive at breakfast, which includes local and European options with seasonal fresh fruit. My mornings start with a walk while the wild birds sing and seem to talk to me, then breakfast. The hotel is well placed for trips to Taungyii, Kalaw, Aung Pan, and Inle lake. A ++ for staying here and experiencing Myanmar.
