Hotel Grace Taunggyi

The rooms were ridiculously expensive. I booked a rate that included breakfast, but when I came downstairs in the morning and asked for it, I was told, “no breakfast.” The AC also didn’t work overnight. At about 80 bucks a night, that’s a bad joke. The only upside is that it’s relatively close to the balloon festival area.

We paid 35,000 ks for a rather small room, with a small wardrobe, bathroom, and bedroom. Hotel Grace does allow small dogs like my terrier, which not many Taunggyi hotels do, and the carpark has plenty of space. We were near the elevator, and the poor soundproofing meant we kept hearing its ring. Road traffic was audible too, even though the hotel is well outside downtown. One odd detail: reception is on the 3rd floor, which is also the ground floor. I’m still confused.

The staff are sweet, but could use some training. This is an okay hotel, newly built on the outskirts of Taunggyi. There’s no dining room yet, and the view isn’t anything special. The basement standard rooms have no A/C, while only the superior rooms do. There is a lift, but it wasn’t operating yet.

The hotel is nice, but it didn’t seem ready for us. The elevator wasn’t working and there was no wifi. We had to ask for toilet paper and tissue. The aircon power was still off, and the electric current wasn’t enough to run it. I had to unplug the fridge and turn on the cold water myself. 😞
