The place has a bungalow-style feel and the price is reasonable. Rooms are roomy and clean, with a bathtub, and the owners and staff are helpful. It’s close to Bistro 29. Breakfast isn’t included, but you can order it and pay separately.
The room smelled awful, something like monkey droppings, and I had crawling insects on my pillow. My friend found what looked like droppings too. There was no toilet paper, no water, and the TV didn’t work. We asked to move because the smell was making my sinuses really bad, but the cheaper replacement room was nasty as well. We got tired of asking for water and a working TV, so we gave up and left the next morning. There was no ceiling or floor fan, and the room was really hot with only two small windows. We left them open to cool it down, but the noise kept us awake. We were too worried about finding more insects or droppings to sleep under the covers, and even using the shower felt scary. None of the staff could speak or understand English, not a single word. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the main road, but I don’t think that’s worth putting up with the smell. We booked the best room, number 805, for one night on 12/09/17, and it was a huge mistake. The place is cheap and nasty. You can probably find somewhere else that’s cheap without being this nasty. Good luck if you decide to book.
The breakfast was excellent, with Shan noodles or western bread and egg, plus a sunrise view. But we were supposed to get a room with a separate living room and bedroom and a bathtub. Instead, we got the room farthest away, with just two beds and not even a TV. Very disappointing.
The rooms have pleasant views over the compound and are roomy enough for four, even though they’re described as fitting two or three. Superior and deluxe rooms have separate living and sleeping areas. The price is fair, and it’s easy to get around from here, with Kalaw market, the train station, and bars nearby.
The rates are good, but the hotel shuts early and sometimes there’s nobody at reception. We stayed out a bit late at a downtown bar and came back to find the place closed and unattended. Also, there isn’t a mirror in the room for my girlfriend to put on makeup.
