The Kalaw market is just a short walk away, and since the hotel doesn’t serve breakfast, going there worked well for me. I booked one of the better rooms, which felt like good value, and I didn’t hear the traffic that other guests have mentioned. The staff were helpful with questions about trips and places to go, though the amenities were pretty average. A few practical things could be better. Hot water takes a while, the room key locks could use improvement, and the sockets are loose and unreliable. Some still work after you switch them off, so bring an extension cord. The AC can both cool and heat. There’s no one managing parking, and rental cars and bikes take up the small front yard. WiFi is slow enough for scrolling, but not for seeing meeting content, so I had to use my own data for meetings. Still, I had quite a good stay.

It’s handy for backpackers, with the market and express bus stop nearby. The hotel sits on the main highway, though, so there’s some noise. The rooms feel warm at night and cool during the day. Cleanliness and service are about what you’d expect from a budget hotel.

The staff were very welcoming, and after a long trek through the Shan hills, the room was a comfortable place to come back to. Winner Hotel is also well placed in the heart of Kalaw, within easy walking distance of the lively local market and several charming cafes. It makes a convenient base for exploring town.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is close to Kalaw Market and several good restaurants. Buses on the highway stop right outside, which is convenient, though the location means I wouldn’t recommend staying here to relax. I had the second cheapest room, and for somewhere just to sleep, it’s a good choice.

The location is really good, and the staff were polite and accommodating. My room was clean and I was able to check in early. There’s no breakfast, and the aircon doesn’t have a heating function.
