Downtown @ Mandalay

The location near the railway station was really convenient, and reception is open 24 hours. Beds were comfortable, with large lockable boxes, and towels and shower products were included in the price. Breakfast was very good, with bread and spreads, eggs, and a noodle dish. There was coffee all day, plus free fruit and juice each evening. Great hostel.

The breakfast is decent, though it’s usually the same each day, and the staff are friendly and know their way around travel bookings. I’ve stayed here a few times and liked it better on earlier visits. The bathrooms are already having problems, with drains and showers that spray water everywhere, even though the place isn’t very old. The price feels too high for a hostel now. For just a little more, you can get a hotel room without having to share with smelly, snoring roommates.

I like a quiet place, so the lack of games or other activities didn’t bother me. This hostel is calm, clean, and helpful, and I got good advice on taxis, boats, and other services at fair prices. Another hostel quoted me too much. I stayed here two nights, tried a more popular place, and came back after finding it crowded and noisy, with disappointing bathrooms. downtown@mdy was much more my style and good value for what I paid.

The reception team, both men and women, were always around to help with questions, and the service was first class. It’s very clean, with rooms cleaned and beds made every day, and there are plenty of toilets and bathrooms. Breakfast was good, and the afternoon tea with fruit and juice was a nice extra. Highly recommend this hostel.
