Holiday Pier Hotel

I've stayed here several times since the earthquake in Mandalay, and the service has got worse each time. During this stay, the wifi had to be renewed every hour; on my previous three-day visit there was no wifi at all. The front desk is understaffed, making check-in and checkout difficult. Last time, checkout alone took about 40 minutes. Rooms costing over 100,000 MMK had no TV, and some rooms had no hot water. The manager and management didn't seem to care about guests. I tried to complain, but they didn't care about the problems. I won't stay here again. The service quality doesn't match the price.

I used to stay here at least once a month. The rooms were clean, the staff and management friendly, and the rooftop bar had a nice panoramic view. I wanted to give five stars. But some guests smoked in the lift, talked loudly in the corridor, and slammed doors at midnight. I'm sure they weren't locals. I called the front desk to complain, but management couldn't handle them. They only put notices in the lift in Myanmar and other languages, and the guests ignored them.

Breakfast was good, and the room had been upgraded and was very clean. The staff were friendly, and the service felt worth the price. The pool was the one letdown: the water was so dirty that I couldn't swim that day. Still, this is the best hotel I've stayed at in Mandalay so far.

I was there around early November, and the two-bedroom room was about 45000 MMK. That might feel steep to some, but I thought it was well worth it. The rooms were superb and breakfast was top notch. WiFi could be a little slow, but I really have no other complaint. I'd stay again and recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable rest.
