Thante Hotel- Nyaung Oo

The nearby worship center was loud through the night, which was the one real challenge. Apart from that, we loved staying here. Thante Hotel has a gorgeous, large, clean pool and spacious rooms, and the staff helped us order food and book buses.

The bakery and restaurant are attached, and Sanon, the youth training restaurant, serves good food with even friendlier than usual service. Renting an e-bike for 8,000 kyat a day seemed reasonable, and the staff were very friendly and happy to help arrange pagoda and other sightseeing trips. It’s a small hotel with private bungalow-style rooms. The furniture felt a bit dated, though the linen was new and clean. The pool is so hot it’s more like a spa.

There can be some noise at times, since monasteries surround the hotel. The pool is nice, the rooms are wide and roomy, and Sanoon next door is a lovely restaurant with its own bakery. Breakfast is included and really good. Just note that in low season, when there aren’t enough guests, it switches to a menu breakfast.

The AC was barely working, even though my 2017 guidebook said the hotel had a new system. I was there in the hot season, when daytime temperatures are usually over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt and asked whether another room had better AC. They moved me, but it had the same problem. Their answer was to close the curtains, leaving the room very dark. I turned the AC all the way up and went to lunch, but the room was still sweltering when I got back, so I left for a different hotel that was AMAZING. The staff were rude. The decor was very dated, though that wasn’t a big deal to me since I don’t choose hotels for their decor. The broken AC and rude service were why I rated it so low.
