Everest Hotel

The bus access wasn’t great either. Bus 56 was the only one that went past the hotel. My first impression had been good, but the mold smell in the room persisted even when I tried to air it out, and I wouldn’t stay again. There was no AC, only a fan, and no window or other way for air to circulate. The only option was to open the room to the corridor, where the room opposite was doing the same, so we lost privacy. The shared bathroom was nice and clean, and the room looked clean too, until I checked under the beds and saw rubbish. We booked a double or twin but got three beds. That extra bed left very little room, even for two people with backpacks. There was nowhere to hang wet towels or clothes, and our rain-soaked clothes from the evening were still wet the next morning.

For the Myanmar price, it’s probably as good as it gets. I stayed up watching football with the guys, and there were lots of mosquitoes, though their bites were tiny and didn’t itch. Breakfast seems a little better now, with a fried egg sandwich and coffee. They have a gym, though there’s no elevator and the cheap rooms are on the sixth floor. My laundry came back a bit unwashed, but they took it back without arguing and did a good job the second time.

I paid 7000 MMK for five nights in a shared room on the sixth floor. There were no facilities and the service was bad. The room was too hot and had only a fan. I didn’t like Everest hotel, though I enjoyed the outside views every night.

The manager and staff are great, and the hotel is calm and comfortable. For the price, it’s very reasonable compared with other places. A standard room has a TV, air conditioning, and a hot shower. There are lots of restaurants, convenience stores, and massage places around the hotel.
